Born on June 13, 1943, in Horsforth, Yorkshire, England, McDowell started his acting career in the 1960s. He initially worked in theatre before transitioning to film and television. His breakout role was in "If...." (1968), a British drama directed by Lindsay Anderson. However, it was his role in "A Clockwork Orange" that catapulted him to international stardom.
