Middlemist ed and others 2 Middlemist is a character in the play A Midsummer Night"s Dream by William Shakespeare. He is a young Athenian man who is in love with Helena, and is one of the four lovers in the play. He is a rival to Demetrius, who is also in love with Helena. Middlemist is portrayed as a good-natured and honorable man who is willing to fight for Helena"s love. He is also portrayed as a bit of a romantic, as he often speaks of Helena in poetic terms. Other characters in the play include Oberon and Titania, the King and Queen of the Fairies; Puck, a mischievous fairy; and the four Athenian lovers: Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, and Helena.
