One day, Cain offered some of his crops as a sacrifice to God, while Abel offered some of the best of his flock. God accepted Abel"s offering, but not Cain"s. This made Cain very angry, and he became jealous of his brother. In a fit of rage, Cain killed Abel. When God asked Cain where his brother was, Cain replied, "Am I my brother"s keeper?" God then cursed Cain and sent him away from the land of Eden. As punishment for his crime, Cain was forced to wander the land as a fugitive and a wanderer.
