Arthas Warcraft III 5 Arthas Menethil is a major character in the Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne real-time strategy games, as well as the World of Warcraft massively multiplayer online role-playing game. He is the prince of Lordaeron and the heir to the throne. He is also the central antagonist of Warcraft III and a major character in World of Warcraft. In Warcraft III, Arthas is the main protagonist of the Human campaign. He is sent by his father, King Terenas, to investigate a plague that is spreading across Lordaeron. He eventually discovers that the plague is being caused by the undead Scourge, led by the Lich King. In an attempt to save his people, Arthas joins forces with the Lich King and takes up the cursed runeblade Frostmourne. This decision leads him down a dark path and he eventually becomes the new Lich King. In World of Warcraft, Arthas is the final boss of the Icecrown Citadel raid. He is the master of the Scourge and the main antagonist of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. He is also the leader of the Knights of the Ebon Blade, a faction of death knights who have turned against the Lich King.
