Castle in the Sky- movie 2 Castle in the Sky is a 1986 Japanese animated fantasy-adventure film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It follows the adventures of a young boy and girl attempting to keep a magic crystal from a group of military agents, while searching for a legendary floating castle. The film was distributed by Toei Kabushiki Kaisha and was released on August 2, 1986. It was the first film animated by Studio Ghibli and was the only film directed by Miyazaki until his return to feature films with Princess Mononoke in 1997.
