Chocolat- movie Chocolat is a 2000 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström, based on the novel of the same name by Joanne Harris. The film stars Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, and Johnny Depp. Set in 1959 in a French village, it tells the story of a young mother, played by Binoche, who arrives with her six-year-old daughter and opens a chocolate shop.
