Cidade de Deus- movie 4 Cidade de Deus is a 2002 Brazilian crime drama film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund. It is based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Paulo Lins, and tells the story of the slum of Cidade de Deus, Rio de Janeiro, between the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1980s, focusing on the violent conflict between drug dealers and gangs. The film was critically acclaimed and won numerous awards, including four Academy Award nominations.
