The cartoon was directed by Chuck Jones and written by Michael Maltese. It was released on July 25, 1953. The cartoon is a parody of the popular science fiction series Buck Rogers. The plot follows Daffy Duck, who is tricked into believing he is the hero of the story, Duck Dodgers, and is sent on a mission to find a rare mineral called Illudium Phosdex. Along the way, he must battle Marvin the Martian and his henchmen. The cartoon is also notable for introducing the catchphrase "Where"s the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!"
