It was based on the Fritz the Cat comic strips by Robert Crumb. The film follows Fritz, an anthropomorphic feline in mid-1960s New York City who explores the ideals of hedonism and sociopolitical consciousness. The film was the first animated feature to receive an X rating in the United States. It was produced by Steve Krantz and features the voices of Skip Hinnant, Rosetta LeNoire, and John McCurry.
