It follows the adventures of a young boy named Gerald who speaks only in sound effects. The cartoon won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1951. It was the first animated short to win an Oscar. The cartoon was adapted into a television series in 1956, and was revived in several different incarnations over the years.
