It was the first feature film produced by Lucasfilm before the company"s acquisition by The Walt Disney Company. The film tells the story of Howard, a humanoid duck from a parallel universe who is suddenly transported to Earth, where he befriends a young woman and tries to find a way back to his own world. It was met with a mixed reception from critics and was a box office bomb, grossing only $37 million against a $37 million budget. Despite the negative reception, it has gained a cult following in the years since its release.
