It is the third installment in the Ice Age franchise and the sequel to Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006). The film was directed by Carlos Saldanha and co-directed by Mike Thurmeier. It stars Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, and Simon Pegg. The story has Sid and his friends attempting to rescue the hapless dinosaur eggs from a raging underground dinosaur battle. The film was released on July 1, 2009, and grossed over $886 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated film of that year and the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2009. It was followed by a sequel, Ice Age: Continental Drift, in 2012.
