Latvia- movie 1 The Fencer (2015) The Fencer is a 2015 Finnish-Estonian-German drama film directed by Klaus Härö. It is based on the true story of Endel Nelis, a champion fencer and teacher who had to hide his past in the Soviet Union. The film follows Nelis as he arrives in Haapsalu, Estonia, to become a physical education teacher at a local school. He soon discovers a hidden talent among his students for fencing and starts to teach them the sport. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.
