North and South-TV series North and South is a British television drama series, produced by the BBC and originally broadcast in four episodes on BBC One in November 1985. It is a adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell"s 1855 novel of the same name. The series follows the story of Margaret Hale, a young woman from southern England who moves to the industrial north of England. It stars Patrick Stewart, Timothy Dalton, and Lesley-Anne Down. The series was followed by a sequel, North and South: Book II, in 1986.
