Pierre de Ronsard 3 Pierre de Ronsard was a French poet and a leader of the literary movement known as the Pléiade. He is best known for his lyric poetry which was inspired by Petrarch and the Italian Renaissance. He was also a great admirer of the ancient Greek and Roman poets, and he was one of the first French poets to introduce the sonnet form into French literature. He wrote over 1,000 poems, including the famous "Mignonne, allons voir si la rose...".
