Pokemon- movie 1 Pokemon: The First Movie is a 1998 Japanese animated adventure film based on the Pokemon media franchise. It was the first theatrical release in the Pokemon franchise. The film was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and written by Takeshi Shudo. The film follows Ash Ketchum and his friends, Misty and Brock, as they attempt to protect the mythical Pokémon Mew from the evil Giovanni and his team Rocket. The film was released in Japan on July 18, 1998 and in the United States on November 10, 1999. It was followed by a sequel, Pokemon: The Movie 2000, in 1999.
