It was released on April 1, 2005, and grossed $158 million worldwide. The film is primarily based on three of Miller"s works: The Hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill, and That Yellow Bastard. It is set in Basin City, a fictional town plagued by corruption, crime, and violence. The film follows the stories of several of its inhabitants, including a former cop, a hitman, and a cop-turned-vigilante. The film has a highly stylized visual style, which includes the use of black-and-white photography and animation, as well as heavy use of computer-generated imagery. Sin City was well-received by critics, who praised its visuals, action sequences, and performances.
