Sledge Hammer-TV series "Sledge Hammer!" is an American satirical police sitcom produced by New World Television that ran for two seasons on ABC from 1986 to 1988. The series was created by Alan Spencer and stars David Rasche as Inspector Sledge Hammer, a caricature of the standard "cop on the edge" character. The show follows the misadventures of Inspector Sledge Hammer, a stubborn, violent, and chauvinistic detective who carries a .44 Magnum (the "most powerful handgun in the world", according to him), with which he has a very close relationship, to the point of talking to it and calling it "her". He also has a love for excessive violence. The show"s catchphrase is, "Trust me, I know what I"m doing", which Sledge says in many episodes, usually before causing a catastrophe. Despite the character"s violent ways, the show often uses physical comedy, with slapstick moments and outlandish villains. "Sledge Hammer!" is considered a cult classic for its unique blend of action, comedy, and satire.
