Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron- movie 3 Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron is a 2002 American animated adventure film produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by DreamWorks Pictures. The film was directed by Kelly Asbury and Lorna Cook, and written by John Fusco. The film follows Spirit, a Kiger Mustang stallion living in the 19th-century Old West, who sets out on a cross-country journey to regain his freedom. The film stars the voices of Matt Damon, James Cromwell, Daniel Studi, Chopper Bernet, Jeff LeBeau, and John Rubano. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature but lost to Spirited Away. It was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film but lost to Lilo & Stitch. A sequel, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron – The Adventure Begins, was released in 2020.
