The Birth of John the Baptist The birth of John the Baptist is recorded in the New Testament of the Bible in the Gospel of Luke. According to the Bible, John was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth, who were both elderly and had been unable to conceive a child. An angel appeared to Zechariah and told him that Elizabeth would give birth to a son who would be a prophet of the Lord. Zechariah doubted the angel"s words, but the angel told him that his son would be called John and would go before the Lord to prepare the way for him. When John was born, Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied about his son"s future. The birth of John the Baptist is celebrated in the Christian church on June 24th.
