The Honorable Harry Powell the movie Night of th 6 The Night of the Hunter is a 1955 American film noir directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, and Lillian Gish. The plot focuses on a corrupt preacher-turned-serial killer who attempts to charm and manipulate his way into the lives of two young children in order to gain access to their late mother"s hidden fortune. The character of Harry Powell, played by Mitchum, is loosely based on real-life murderer Harry Powers, who was hanged in 1932 for the murder of two widows and three children in Quiet Dell, West Virginia.
