She is the most significant antagonist in the novel and is the main antagonist of the 1939 film adaptation The Wizard of Oz. The Wicked Witch is the ruler of the Winkie Country, and she uses her dark magic to try to stop Dorothy and her friends from getting to the Emerald City and the Wizard of Oz. She is eventually killed by Dorothy when she throws a bucket of water on her, causing her to melt away.
