NARUTO 2 Naruto is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who seeks to gain recognition from his peers and also dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. The series is based on a one-shot manga by Kishimoto that was published in the August 1997 issue of Akamaru Jump. The anime adaptation of Naruto premiered in Japan on October 3, 2002, on TV Tokyo and concluded on March 23, 2017, after airing 500 episodes. The English adaptation of the anime premiered on Cartoon Network"s Toonami block on September 10, 2005, and ended on January 31, 2009, after 98 episodes. The English adaptation was released on DVD by Viz Media.
