Dr. Strangelove or How I Stopped Being Afraid and Fell 6 Love with the Bomb Dr. Strangelove is a 1964 black comedy film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film stars Peter Sellers in three roles: the titular character, Dr. Strangelove, a wheelchair-bound nuclear scientist; Group Captain Lionel Mandrake of the Royal Air Force; and President Merkin Muffley, the US President. The film also stars George C. Scott as General Buck Turgidson, Sterling Hayden as Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper, and Slim Pickens as Major "King" Kong. The plot revolves around a psychotic US Air Force general who orders a first strike nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. The President and his advisers must then try to recall the bombers to prevent a nuclear holocaust. The film is an exploration of the themes of the Cold War, the threat of nuclear war, and the dangers of human fallibility.
