Gerald Bepko 3 Gerald Bepko is a former American college administrator who served as the president of Indiana University from 1994 to 2002. He was the first non-academic to serve as president of the university. During his tenure, he was credited with leading the university through a period of growth and expansion, including the establishment of a new medical school and the construction of several new buildings. He also led the university"s efforts to increase diversity among its faculty and student body. After leaving Indiana University, Bepko served as the chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington from 2002 to 2008.
