Superman Christopher Reeve 1 Christopher Reeve is best known for his portrayal of Superman in the 1978 movie of the same name. He was born in New York City on September 25, 1952, and began his acting career in the early 1970s. He went on to star in several other films, including Somewhere in Time (1980), The Bostonians (1984), and Deathtrap (1982). He also starred in the television series Smallville from 2001 to 2011. Reeve was paralyzed from the neck down in 1995 following a horse-riding accident, but he continued to act and advocate for people with disabilities. He died in 2004 at the age of 52.
