Thanos 4 Thanos is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was created by writer Mike Friedrich and writer-artist Jim Starlin, and first appeared in Iron Man #55 in February 1973. Thanos is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe and has clashed with many heroes including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Thanos is a member of the Eternals, a race of superhumans with god-like powers. He was born on Saturn"s moon Titan and is the son of Eternals Mentor and Sui-San. Thanos carries the Deviants gene, and as such, shares the physical appearance of the Eternals" cousin race.
