Tom Bombadil The Lord of the Rings 2 Tom Bombadil is a character in J.R.R. Tolkien"s Middle-earth legendarium. He first appears in the novel The Fellowship of the Ring. He is a mysterious figure who lives with his wife Goldberry in the woods of the Old Forest, east of the Shire. He is described as a "merry fellow" who loves to sing and dance. He is very powerful, but he is not a part of the great powers of Middle-earth, and he seems to exist outside of the usual boundaries of time and space. He is able to protect the hobbits from the evil of the Old Forest and later helps them escape from the Barrow-wights. He is also able to see the future, and his advice to the hobbits is often wise and helpful.
