Unmasked Darth Vader 1 Anakin Skywalker was a Force-sensitive Human male who served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi Knight and later served the Galactic Empire as the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Born to Shmi Skywalker in 41.9 BBY, Anakin was conceived by midi-chlorians, the symbiotic organisms that allowed individuals to touch the Force, and he and his mother were brought to the desert planet of Tatooine to be the slaves of Gardulla the Hutt. Anakin"s father was the Force, making him a product of both the midi-chlorians and the will of the Force. Anakin"s extraordinary gifts made him one of the most powerful Jedi ever, but his fear of loss would prove to be his downfall. After the death of his mother, Anakin fell to the dark side of the Force and became the Sith Lord Darth Vader.
