LAS MENINAS 2 Las Meninas is a painting by the Spanish artist Diego Velázquez, painted in 1656 and now in the Prado Museum in Madrid. The painting is a complex composition of figures, including Velázquez himself, the Infanta Margarita, her chaperone Marcela de Ulloa, two dwarfs, a dog, and several courtiers. It is considered one of the most important works of Spanish Baroque art. Las Meninas has long been seen as an allegory of the relationship between the Spanish monarchy and the Catholic Church.
