Acrocanthosaurus 1 Acrocanthosaurus was a large, carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 115 to 108 million years ago. It was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs of its time, measuring up to 12 meters (39 feet) long and weighing up to 6 tons. Its name means "high-spined lizard" and refers to the tall neural spines along its back. It had a long, low skull with powerful jaws and sharp, serrated teeth, and long, powerful hind legs. It is believed to have been an active predator, hunting large prey such as other dinosaurs and possibly even early mammals.
