Cassius crocodile famous animal 6 Cassius the crocodile is a famous animal from the Northern Territory of Australia. He was the largest crocodile ever captured in the wild, measuring 5.48 meters (18 feet) in length and weighing 1,075 kilograms (2,370 pounds). He was also the oldest known crocodile in captivity, living to an estimated age of over 70 years. Cassius was famous for his aggressive behavior and was known to attack boats and people, earning him the nickname "Salties". He was eventually captured and placed in the Adelaide River Queen Jumping Crocodile Cruise, where he remained until his death in 2020.
