Keiko famous animal 7 Keiko was a famous killer whale (orca) who starred in the 1993 film "Free Willy." He was known for his role as Willy, the captive orca who befriends a young boy named Jesse. Keiko"s story also inspired a real-life campaign to release him from captivity and return him to the wild. After the movie"s success, efforts were made to rehabilitate Keiko and eventually release him into the wild, which was achieved in 2002. Keiko spent his final years swimming freely in the ocean before passing away in 2003.
