Mapusaurus 11 Mapusaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in what is now South America during the Late Cretaceous period, around 90 million years ago. It was closely related to the North American Tyrannosaurus rex, and is thought to have been about 9 metres (30 feet) long and weighed up to 4 tonnes. It was an apex predator, meaning it was at the top of the food chain, and likely hunted other large dinosaurs such as sauropods.
