Red Dog famous animal Red Dog was a kelpie/cattle dog cross that was found in the Pilbara region of Western Australia in the early 1970s. He became well known for his travels through the region and his particular fondness for the local pub. He was eventually adopted by the town of Dampier and became a local celebrity, appearing in books, television shows, and a feature film about his life. Red Dog died in 1979 and was buried in the town of Dampier.
