Secretariat horse famous animal 4 Secretariat was a Thoroughbred racehorse who, in 1973, became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years. He set race records in all three Triple Crown races that still stand today. He was widely considered one of the greatest racehorses of all time. Secretariat was foaled on March 30, 1970, at Meadow Stud in Doswell, Virginia. He was sired by Bold Ruler and out of Somethingroyal, a daughter of Princequillo. He was trained by Lucien Laurin and ridden by Ron Turcotte. Secretariat was owned by Meadow Stable, a syndicate headed by Penny Chenery. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1974.
