UEFA EURO 2008 6 UEFA Euro 2008 was the 13th edition of the UEFA European Football Championship, the quadrennial international men"s football championship of Europe organized by UEFA. It took place in Austria and Switzerland from 7 June to 29 June 2008. Spain won the tournament, defeating Germany 1–0 in the final. Spain were only the second nation to win all their group stage fixtures and then the European Championship itself - an accomplishment matched by France in 1984. The tournament was the first major football competition to be held in Austria and Switzerland since the 1954 FIFA World Cup, and was the last major tournament to be held in the two countries before they co-hosted the 2008 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. It was also the first major tournament where the final was a one-off game, rather than a two-legged affair. Spain"s victory was their first major title since the 1964 European Nations" Cup and their first ever European Championship title. It was the first time since the 1982 FIFA World Cup that a team from the Iberian Peninsula had won a major tournament. The tournament was the most financially successful in the history of the European Championship, generating €1.5 billion in revenue.
