Warcraft II Beyond the Dark Portal 6 "Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal" is an expansion pack for the highly popular real-time strategy game "Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness". This expansion pack was released in 1996, a year after the release of the original game. The story of "Beyond the Dark Portal" takes place after the events of "Tides of Darkness". After the human and orcish wars in the kingdom of Azeroth, the orcish shaman Ner"zhul takes command and opens portals to different realms in a bid to conquer them. The player can choose to either control the humans and elves to stop the orcs or command the orcish forces to execute Ner"zhul"s plans. The gameplay remains largely the same as the original game, with players gathering resources, building bases, and commanding armies to defeat their enemies. However, "Beyond the Dark Portal" introduces new units and heroes for both the human and orc factions, as well as new maps and scenarios. The expansion pack was well-received by fans and critics alike, praising its new content and challenging campaign. It was also included in the "Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition", which allowed players to play the game online via Blizzard"s Battle.net service.
