Saltpond in Ghana Saltpond is a small town in the Central Region of Ghana. It is located on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea, about 120 kilometers west of the capital city of Accra. The town is the traditional capital of the Mfantsiman Municipal District, and is home to the Chiefs of the Nkusukum Traditional Area. Saltpond is a fishing and trading center, and is known for its seafood and its salt production. The town is also home to a number of historic sites, including the Fort San Sebastian, which was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century.
