Samdrup Jongkhar in Bhutan Samdrup Jongkhar is a town in southeastern Bhutan. It is the administrative seat of Samdrup Jongkhar District, one of the 20 districts of Bhutan. The town is located on the Indian border, about 100 km east of the Bhutanese capital Thimphu. It is the easternmost town in Bhutan and the closest town to the Indian state of Assam. The town is connected to the rest of Bhutan by a highway, and is served by Samdrup Jongkhar Airport. The town is home to several educational institutions, including a college, and a hospital. It is also the site of the regional dzong, or fortress. Samdrup Jongkhar is an important trading post between India and Bhutan, and is a major center for the export of timber and other forest products.
