Batman returns- movie 4 Batman Returns is a 1992 American superhero film directed by Tim Burton, based on the DC Comics character Batman. It is the sequel to the 1989 film Batman and the second installment of Warner Bros." initial Batman film series. The film stars Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Michael Gough, Pat Hingle, and Michael Murphy. In the film, Batman is forced to deal with the Penguin, a deformed man who is intent on being accepted into Gotham society, while also having to deal with Catwoman, who seeks vengeance against Max Shreck, a corrupt businessman, responsible for the death of her beloved. The film was released on June 19, 1992, and grossed $266.8 million worldwide. It received generally positive reviews from critics and was nominated for two Academy Awards, Best Visual Effects and Best Makeup, as well as two BAFTA awards.
