Sastamalai in Finland 3 Sastamala is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Pirkanmaa region. The town has a population of 16,819 (31 January 2021) and covers an area of 1,149.91 square kilometres (444.44 sq mi) of which 131.51 km2 (50.77 sq mi) is water. The population density is 14.72 inhabitants per square kilometre (38.1/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Neighbouring municipalities are Huittinen, Kokemäki, Lavia, Nokia, Orivesi, Parkano, Punkalaidun, Sastamala and Virrat. The municipality is also known as "Sastamala-land". The municipality is mostly rural and it is known for its numerous lakes. The largest lake is Pyhäjärvi. The municipality is also home to the Sastamala Gregoriana, a music festival that has been held annually since 1977.
