Sheikh Zayed Mosque 7 The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is one of the largest mosques in the world, covering an area of more than 12 hectares (30 acres). The mosque was built between 1996 and 2007 and is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president of the United Arab Emirates. The mosque features 82 domes, over 1,000 columns, 24-carat gold gilded chandeliers and the world"s largest hand-knotted carpet. It also has four minarets that stand at a height of 107 meters (351 feet). The mosque is open to the public for prayer and non-prayer visits.
