Soissons in France 1 Soissons is a commune in the northern French department of Aisne, in the region of Hauts-de-France. It is located on the Aisne River, about 100 km northeast of Paris. Soissons is the ancient capital of the Viromandui, a Gallic tribe. It was the location of a major battle between the Franks and the Normans in 859.
