Belle de jour Belle de jour is a 1967 French drama film directed by Luis Buñuel and starring Catherine Deneuve, Jean Sorel, and Michel Piccoli. The film follows a young housewife who begins working at a brothel in the afternoon to escape the tedium of her bourgeois existence. The film was a critical and commercial success, and was the highest-grossing French film of 1967. It won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival that year.
