Stockach Baden-Wrttemberg in Germany 1 Stockach is a town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located on the western shore of Lake Constance, about 30 km (19 mi) south of Konstanz. It is the capital of the district of Stockach. The town has a population of around 13,000. The town was first mentioned in documents in 883, when it was part of the estate of the Counts of Nellenburg. In 1220, it was acquired by the Counts of Hohenberg, who built a castle in the town. The town was granted a charter in 1282, and in 1360 it was granted the right to hold a weekly market. Stockach is home to several historic buildings, including the Baroque Church of St. John the Baptist, the Gothic Church of St. Mary, and the Renaissance castle. The town also has a number of museums, including the Stockach Museum of Local History and the Automobile Museum. The town is also a popular tourist destination, with a number of lakeside resorts and beaches.
