The statue was built to commemorate the life and work of Vallabhbhai Patel, a leader of the Indian independence movement. The statue is made of bronze, steel, and reinforced concrete and was designed by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar. The statue is located in the Narmada district of Gujarat, on the Sadhu Bet island, which is located 3.2 km downstream of the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
