Black Lightning-TV series 5 Black Lightning is an American superhero television series developed by Salim Akil, airing on The CW. It is based on the DC Comics character of the same name, created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden. The series stars Cress Williams as the titular character alongside China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams, Marvin Jones III, Damon Gupton, and James Remar. The series follows Jefferson Pierce, a high school principal and retired superhero with the ability to manipulate electricity, who must balance his family life and his responsibilities as Black Lightning with his efforts to save his community from the increasing crime and corruption. The series premiered on January 16, 2018, and has been renewed for a fifth and final season, which is set to premiere in January 2021.
