Blade Runner- movie 1 Blade Runner is a 1982 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos. The film is set in a dystopian future Los Angeles in 2019, in which genetically engineered replicants, which are visually indistinguishable from adult humans, are manufactured by the powerful Tyrell Corporation. They are exclusively used for dangerous and menial work on off-world colonies. When a fugitive group of replicants led by Roy Batty (Hauer) escapes back to Earth, burnt-out cop Rick Deckard (Ford) reluctantly agrees to hunt them down. The film is a classic neo-noir, with elements of science fiction and film noir, and explores the themes of existentialism, human identity, and the consequences of artificial intelligence. It has since become a cult classic, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time.
