Bridge over the River Kwai on 19 Bridge over the River Kwai was released in 1957 and was directed by David Lean. It stars Alec Guinness, William Holden, and Jack Hawkins. The movie is based on the novel by Pierre Boulle and tells the story of a group of British POWs during World War II who are forced to build a bridge over the River Kwai in Thailand.
